PHS Institutional Review Board

Presbyterian Healthcare Services’ (PHS) Institutional Review Board (IRB) serves as a review board for all human subjects protocols involving biomedical and behavioral research conducted at PHS and all research proposals from requesting staff members of the PHS Medical, Dental or Allied Health personnel.

PHS IRB Jurisdiction for the CDS, Clinic Sites and the Regional Facilities

In their review of human subject research, the IRB has jurisdiction over all aspects of research involving human subjects, including the following:

• identification methods for potential human subjects
• methods for contacting potential subjects
• materials / advertisements for recruiting subjects
• proposed remuneration for subjects involved in studies
• pilot studies
• proposals to use or provide stored blood, tissues or confidential data
• surveys and interview questions
• informed consent process and forms
• protocol and summary of the research
• proposed changes to the research
• unanticipated problems involving risk to the subjects or others
• continuing reviews
• investigational drugs & devices uses in emergency situations
• humanitarian device usage
