21st Century Hospital
Presbyterian is investing to create New Mexico's first 21st century hospital. We are creating a healing environment for New Mexicans, using everything we know about treating patients and the latest in design features for hospital care.
Design meets safety and efficiency
Evidence Based Design
The design of the new hospital will be driven by the desire to create a design using proven methods to positively impact patient safety, clinical outcomes, environment and patient, physician and employee satisfaction.
- Research shows that natural lighting in a patient's room reduces the need for pain medication by 22 percent.
- Studies show that private patient rooms, which are acuity adaptable, reduce medication errors by 67 percent.
- Reducing noise in a patient's room with sound absorbing ceilings, floors and walls improves sleep by 49 percent.
"Lean" Efficiency

We improved efficiency by designing the facility to reduce the number of steps an employee takes in a shift
Save a foot, gain a mile - 30 percent of a nurse's shift is spent walking. Presbyterian Rio Rancho Hospital's medical/surgical floor design will result in an annual reduction for a nurses' walking distance equal to the distance from Rio Rancho to Gallup, New Mexico.
