News Release: July 17, 2008

Seven Presbyterian Medical Group clinics have been recognized for exceeding 90 percent childhood immunization rate in 2008. Each clinic received the immunization award from the New Mexico Immunization Coalition (NMIC).
The Presbyterian sites that met or exceeded the 90 percent goal include Atrisco Family Practice, Belen Family Practice, Rio Rancho Pediatric, San Mateo Family Practice and Pediatrics, Isleta Pediatrics, Northside Pediatrics and Ruidoso Family Practice.
Overall, 59 clinics were recognized for their achievements representing five regions: the Albuquerque metropolitan area, northwest, northeast, southeast and southwest quadrants of the state. Presbyterian’s immunization success contributed to New Mexico’s immunization rates for children through two years of age at 76 percent. The national immunization rate is 77 percent.
“I commend the providers for implementing these efforts to improve the health of the children we serve,” said Dr. Michael McGrail, executive medical for Presbyterian Medical Group.
The NMIC is a statewide public/private partnership committed to increasing immunization rates for all New Mexicans. Their goal by 2010 is to achieve on time, age appropriate immunization of 90 percent for all people living in New Mexico. Some of NMIC’s strategic objectives include supporting and promoting immunization knowledge and practices with healthcare providers and recognizing excellence and achievement among providers.
