Advanced Practice & Clinical Nurse Specialsit
Specialist Role
There are over eighty mid-level providers in the Presbyterian Healthcare system. This includes Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Mid-Wives, Nurse Anesthetist, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Physicians Assistants.
Advanced Practice Nurses are recognized as valuable professionals in the patient care process. APNs serve in a variety of roles including direct care providers in clinic and emergency department settings, delivering anesthesia in surgery and coordinating care in critical care and neonatal care units. They also serve as consultants, educators and managers.
Clinical Nurse Specialists serve as patient care coordinators, as well as advisors to clinical programs and committees. These professionals also help design the education and development needs of the nursing staff.
Nurse Mid-Wives have long been delivering care in our Birthing Centers and work side-by-side with our physicians and nurses to deliver care to thousands of patients annually.
The Advanced Practice Council is the formal body that serves to organize, inform and educate this group. This self-governed team works to improve the practice of nursing at Presbyterian as well as ensure that advanced practice providers are up to date in local and national practice standards. This group works to develop nursing practice standards, orientation materials and accurate credentialing processes for their constituents.
