Automation
As part of our commitment to patient safety, Presbyterian is phasing in the Horizon Care Manager suite of electronic applications which will replace much of our paper documentation. These tools allow for instant access to portions of the medical record, diagnostic results and pertinent patient information. With this technology, clinicians gain instant access from most any terminal within the facility, allowing critical decisions to be made in “real time”.
We have implemented a number of electronic tools to improve access to patient records and standardize care delivery over the past several years. Our commitment to automation has gained us national attention as we have been named one of the “Top 100 Most Wired Hospitals” in the US for several years in a row.
Examples of automation at Presbyterian include:
- Emergency Department Patient Tracking System
- Bed Management Software
- Automated Birthing Center Documentation
- Electronic nursing documentation systems for vitals signs, nurses notes and care plans.
- Wireless Computers on Carts for bedside access
- Bedside Barcode Scanning for Medication Administration
- Digital Radiography Images
- Physicians Portal for Instant Record Access
Although most of these products have been installed in the Albuquerque facilities, applications are now being readied to move in to some of our busier Regional facilities as well.
Future automation projects include:
- Electronic Emergency Department and Urgent Care Documentation
- Electronic Surgical Services Documentation
- Computerized Physician Order Entry
- Electronic Patient Folder (document scanning)
