Continuing Education
The Presbyterian Clinical Education Department helps nurses and other clinical staff develop their skills, maintain competency and readies them for additional professional responsibility throughout their careers. These comprehensive services promote and provide avenues of learning using industry standards facilitated by the right assessment of learning needs, the right instructional design and the right evaluation of instructional effectiveness.
Services offered by the Clinical Education Department
- Competency Based Orientation: Introduction to the Presbyterian nursing organization, clinical services, care and computer systems
- Competency Development: Programs specifically designed to enhance nursing staff’s professional knowledge and skill sets. Offerings include: preceptor training, cultural sensitivity awareness, nurse technician training and national certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and STABLE
- Clinical Computer System Training: The Clinical Education Department coordinates the roll out and education of systems that support the electronic medical record. This includes consultation with units in assessing and adjusting work flow as well as computer systems. Computer based training modules are also available for staff access 24/7 over the internet
- Translation and Cultural Services: Comprehensive services that focus on meeting the communication and cultural needs of the populations served by Presbyterian. Presbyterian employees can become nationally certified as medical interpreters through the "Bridging the Gap" program; a 40 hour certification in medical interpretation and ethics
- Clinical Rotations: Coordination with academic institutions for clinical placement of students from local nursing schools
- Master Clinician Program: Sponsorship and coordination of unit clinical staff who are clinical instructors for nursing clinical rotations
- Simulation Lab: Incorporation of high and mid fidelity technology to support the acquisition and transfer of critical thinking and skills
- Continuing Nursing Education: Consultation and review of continuing education for nursing staff through classes, videos and self-paced learning modules.
