Extern Program

Presbyterian offers a way for nursing students to improve their clinical skills and critical thinking ability while being paid! Participants in the Presbyterian Extern Program can work up to 300 hours on a nursing unit over a one year period while going to nursing school.

Objectives of the Extern Program

  • Integrating nursing theory into practice
  • "Learn by doing"; Experience real word nursing as a working member of a nursing unit
  • Obtain "hands on practice" mentored by experienced Registered Nurses
  • Learn safe practice, current protocols and new skills working with patients while being paid

Program Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program
    1. BSN program student with completion of Nursing 1 or J1 clinical rotation or
    2. ADN program student with completion of Nursing 1 and within 12 months of program completio
    3. 2.5 GPA
    4. Interest in working for Presbyterian upon graduation

  3. Copy of CPR certification
  4. References from two clinical instructors
