Hospitalist Services

Doctors whose primary professional focus is hospital medicine are called hospitalists.

Adult hospitalists are trained in either internal medicine or family practice, while pediatric hospitalists are trained in pediatrics.

Hospitalists:

  • Manage the care and treatment of patients who are admitted to the hospital with medical conditions
  • Coordinate care with medical and surgical specialists
  • Often provide medical consultations for patients being cared for primarily by a specialist

Physicians from the hospitalist team are on site at the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They communicate with the patient's primary care physician about the patient after discharge so that there can be good continuity of care.
