AAS provides Advance Life Support (ALS) paramedic/EMT services to the citizens of Albuquerque, the Village of Corrales and Bernalillo County. AAS also provides mutual aid services for the surrounding counties of Valencia, Sandoval, and Santa Fe. AAS provides services to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the Albuquerque International Sunport, the Sandia and Monzano Mountains, Kirtland Air Force Base, Sandia National Laboratory, and medical transportation throughout New Mexico. AAS is a nonprofit ambulance service and is a division of Presbyterian Hospital. AAS is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS).
AAS provides ALS EMS in a multi-tier response with the following city and county agencies. AAS coordinates with these agencies to provide EMS and transport to surrounding hospitals.
- Albuquerque Fire Department
- Bernalillo County Fire Department
- Village of Corrales Fire Department
- Kirtland AFB Fire Department
Each ALS ambulance is equipped with a full range of ALS equipment including the Physio-Control LP-12 with 12-lead ECGs, which allows for early recognition of patients having acute myocardial infarctions (heart attack), as well as hands-free defibrillation for sudden cardiac arrest. Each ALS ambulance is also equipped with continuous positive airway pressure. AAS utilizes:
- Type II Horton Ambulances
- Stryker Power Hydraulic Gurneys
- Zoll Patient Care Report (PCR)
- Zoll CAD with real time data collection and GPS

Emergency and Non-Emergency Interfacility Transports:
AAS provides both ALS and intermediate life support medical transports throughout New Mexico. Transports can be hospital to hospital or hospital to home or care facility. AAS works closely with specialty care facilities including nursing homes and rehab centers throughout New Mexico. AAS now provides Critical Care transports (CCT) throughout the state of New Mexico. Dispatch/Communication Center:
AAS has a 24hr/7day communication center (Comm Center) that is located at the AAS base office. The Comm Center is charged with receiving and dispatching emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for service to the on duty field crews. The Comm Center works hand in hand with the centers for Albuquerque Fire Department, Bernalillo County Fire Department, Village of Corrales Fire Department, Kirtland Air Force Base and local hospitals.
