Pre-Anesthesia Screening Services

Presbyterian's Pre-Anesthesia Screening Services (PASS) department works closely with Anesthesia Associates and your Doctor to ensure you get the best quality patient care.

Prior to Surgery for the Patient

Pre-Operation Instructions for the Patient

Prior to your surgery, your doctor will complete a medical history and physical examination, which tells us about your medical conditions. The surgeon will also send you to our PASS department for further workup.

Please ensure your Doctor's Office schedules a PASS appointment for you 4 to 10 working days prior to your surgery, and prints out a PASS Patient Package for you to take home. This package includes important forms and information you will need to complete and bring with you the day of your PASS appointment.

During your visit to PASS, the nursing staff will perform a thorough assessment that may include blood testing, urinanalysis, pregnancy testing, EKGs and chest x-rays. These tests need to be completed in advance of surgery so the results can be reviewed prior to your day of surgery. During your PASS visit, the registration clerk will also handle your co-pays and insurance verification.

The PASS process may take up to 75 minutes and will take additional time if you require chest x-rays.

Pre-Operation Instructions for the Doctor's Office

The Doctor's Office pulls the most updated standardized order forms, completes the new standard short form H&P, PASS order Set, and has the Patient sign the following appropriate consent forms as applicable.

The Doctor's Office will fax in all of the forms to PASS (505) 213-0460 immediately after scheduling the appointments.

If the patient comes to Presbyterian PASS department, we will take care of coordinating lab work, EKG, X-rays and any additional tests.

If the patient does not come to the Presbyterian hospital PASS department, the Doctors Office will be responsible:

  • To supply pre-surgical instructions to the patient
  • In addition to H&P and signed consents above, collect all results and fax as a complete package to PASS a minimum of 72 hours prior to surgery.
