David Scrase, M.D.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Presbyterian System
Practicing Geriatrician, Presbyterian Medical Group

David R. Scrase, MD, was named executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Presbyterian system in February 2006. He has been the President of Presbyterian Health Plan since December 1998.

His career has included significant leadership roles in hospital administration, primary care medical group management, a physician hospital organization, and in managed care.

He received his undergraduate, Medical, and Master's in Health Administration degrees from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Scrase joined Presbyterian Health Plan in 1998 as medical director and later the same year was named health plan president. He continues to practice internal medicine and geriatrics with Presbyterian Medical Group.

Dale Maxwell
Chief Financial Officer, Delivery System

Dale Maxwell was named Chief Financial Officer for the Delivery System in June 2007.

Mr. Maxwell joined Presbyterian in 2002 as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Presbyterian Health Plan. In 2006, he served as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Presbyterian Medical Group.

His career has included leadership roles in physician and hospital organizations, financial planning, performance and quality improvement, organizational development and systems implementation.

Mr. Maxwell earned his bachelor's of accountancy degree from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM and his master's degree in healthcare administration from Seton Hall University in Orange, New Jersey.

Joe Calvaruso
Senior Vice President, Performance Acceleration Officer

Joe Calvaruso leads operating performance in quality, patient safety, and community health improvement.

Mr. Calvaruso joined Presbyterian from Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, OH where he served as president and CEO for eight years. Mr. Calvaruso is credited with guiding Mount Carmel Health System to achieving significant accomplishments.

In 2005, Mount Carmel Health System achieved the International Spirit at Work recognition as one of the only ten organizations worldwide and in 2003, received Solucient Top 100 recognition in orthopedics.

Mr. Calvaruso received his master's degree in business administration and his bachelor's of science in economics from the University of Akron in Akron, OH and attended the executive program in health care management from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

Joe Calvaruso has been with Presbyterian since 2006.

Kathy Davis
Patient Care Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Kathy Davis is vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer of Presbyterian Healthcare Services.

Ms. Davis earned her bachelor's of nursing degree from West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas, and earned her MBA from the University of New Mexico.

She serves on the boards for the NM Organization of Nurse Executives and the NM Center for Nursing Excellence, where she is chair-elect.

Ms. Davis was a Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellow from 2000-2003.

Robert Garcia
Vice President of Regional Operations

Mr. Garcia has been with Presbyterian for 25 years. He has served as the administrator for all five Presbyterian regional hospitals, Kaseman Hospital, and the Presbyterian Northside facilities, as well as lead of clinical ancillary services at Presbyterian Hospital and lead of Albuquerque Ambulance.

He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Creighton University in Omaha, NE and his master's of health care administration from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.

Eddie Benge, MD
Vice President, Medical Staff Affairs

Dr. Benge is Vice President of Medical Staff Affairs and works with the medical staff of Presbyterian's Albuquerque hospitals to enhance clinical quality.

He oversees the Medical Directors of the prestigious Heart, Children's, Women's, Behavioral and Medicine Centers, as well as the Presbyterian Medical Library, Medical Education, and Research.

Formerly Chief Medical Officer at St. Joseph Healthcare System, Dr. Benge returns to Presbyterian where he previously practiced as a rheumatologist with the Presbyterian Medical Group.

A native of Lovington, Dr. Benge received his MD from UNM and completed his residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Iowa.

JJ Parsons
Vice President, Baldrige/Contracts

J.J. Parsons is responsible for improving the value and quality of services for patients and customers at Presbyterian. Ms. Parsons facilitates the PHS Quality Council, provides support to the PHS Board Quality Committee, and oversees the system effort to achieve the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, business development activities, the Quality Improvement Center, Safety, Infection Control, Senior Services, and the organization's market research function.

Ms. Parsons has been with Presbyterian since 1984 and previously served as the Vice President of Network Marketing and worked a number of years at the Health Plan.

Ms. Parsons graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science with honors in Journalism, and is a graduate of the IHC Advanced Training Program in Healthcare Delivery Improvement. She also received quality training at the Juran Institute.

Lauren Cates
Vice President, PDS Operations

Lauren Cates joined Presbyterian in 1999.

As Vice President of Operations for our Albuquerque Hospitals, she is responsible for the Operating Rooms, GI Lab, Infusion Center, Oncology Program, Pharmacy Services (inpatient and outpatient), the employed Hospitalist and Intensivist Physician Teams, Materials Management, and Integrated Support Services (Security, Housekeeping, Dietary, Food Service, and Maintenance)

She received her MHA and MBA from the University of Arizona.

Alan Aman
Vice President, PMG Operations

Alan Aman was named vice president of PMG Operations in June 2007 and joined Presbyterian as administrative director of the Presbyterian Heart Group in June 2006. In his role as vice president of PMG Operations, Aman oversees the functions of Presbyterian's employed physician group, which is the fastest-growing multi-specialty medical group in the state. 

Mr. Aman holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from the University of Washington.

Prior to joining Presbyterian, Mr. Aman held positions with Group Health Cooperative, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Providence Medical Center in Seattle, WA.

Donna Agnew
Chief Information Officer

Donna Agnew is vice president and chief information officer for Presbyterian Healthcare Services.

Ms. Agnew earned her bachelor's of nursing degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT., her master's of nursing degree from University of Texas and her MBA from University of Phoenix.

Ms. Agnew joined PHS in 1993. Her career has included leadership roles in nursing in various settings include acute care and homecare, quality and performance improvement and clinical informatics.

Bo Beames
Administrator, Socorro General Hospital

Bo Beames has served as Socorro General Hospital's administrator since July 2006.

Previously, Mr. Beames served as administrator of Dr. Dan C. Trigg Hospital in Tucumcari. Both SGH and Trigg hospitals are part of Presbyterian Healthcare Services' system of eight community not-for-profit hospitals throughout New Mexico.

Mr. Beames is a native of Hobbs. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, and holds a master's degree from University of North Texas, and an MBA from University of South Dakota.

In addition to his service in Tucumcari, Mr. Beames has served as Administrative Director of Black Hills Rehabilitation Hospital in Rapid City, SD from 1995-2004. He began his career in healthcare management at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, NM in 1989.

He is a Certified Healthcare Executive by the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of Healthcare Financial Management Association, and a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

Hoyt Skabelund

Administrator, Plains Regional Medical Center (PRMC), Clovis and Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, Tucumcari

Mr. Skabelund joined Presbyterian in 1996 as an Administrative Fellow.

His roles with Presbyterian have included Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital Administrator, Administrative Director of Health Information Management, Presbyterian and Kaseman Hospitals and Administrative Director, Hospital Admitting/Health Information Management.

   

Jim Gibson
Administrator, Lincoln County Medical Center

Derrick Yu
Administrator, Española Hospital

Española Hospital  named Derrick Yu as its new hospital administrator in July 2007.

Mr. Yu brings more than 16 years of healthcare management experience to this position.  He has been particularly successful in areas such as physician recruitment and retention, expansion of hospital services and employee satisfaction.  Mr. Yu's prior experience includes serving as CEO at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming, New Mexico and he also served as Assistant CEO at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, TX.

Mr. Yu holds a master's degree in health administration from Duke University and received his bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Madras, India, respectively. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive (CHE) with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
