2007 Employee Annual Fund Campaign

Together we are making a difference

Presbyterian Healthcare Foundations's Employee Annual Fund Campaign helps raise funds to support the Employee CareFund, to support areas of greatest need and to support a care area of particular interest to you. The CareFund provides for the emergency needs of employees who find themselves facing an unexpected or catastrophic financial hardship. In 2006 the CareFund provided $70,000 in financial support to employees who needed help with rent, mortgage, and utility payments, along with other necessities.

Each year your generosity surpasses the previous year’s, and we greatly appreciate your support and belief in our work. You make our day every time you so generously donate your dollars to make a difference in the quality of life for others in our community. By filling out a pledge card, you are continuing the tradition of caring and compassion so representative of Presbyterian employees.

The Employee CareFund provides assistance to all PHS employees, including the entire Presbyterian Delivery System. PHP employees are provided the same assistance through the PHP Employee CareFund, which is funded through the PHP administrative budget.

We've Made A Difference for Espie and Mo

Espie and Mo Armendariz have a loving family of two boys, a girl and a granddaughter. But when Mo, 49, a Presbyterian employee for 25 years, had to undergo quintuple bypass surgery, he and his wife, Espie, a physical therapy technician and an employee for 15 years discovered they had another family- Presbyterian.

When Mo experienced chest pains last July he went to the Emergency Room on a Friday where he learned that he had severe blockage of four arteries. He was admitted to the hospital and surgery was scheduled for the following Monday. But Mo's pain increased and when doctors found a fifth blockage they rescheduled surgery for Sunday morning. "We're going in now," Espie remembers a doctor telling her.

Mo stayed in the hospital for eight days where Espie tried to absorb all the information she was receiving. " It's a very life-changing experience. You hear all these words but when it's your family, you block out a lot." When Espie first returned home with Mo it was a "very scary experience, knowing I had to take care of him by myself ." She began to think about the two of them being out of work for a long time and what that would mean to them financially.

It was then that a friend at the hospital "got the ball rolling" and brought Espie's case to the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation. The Employee Carefund provided financial assistance toward her mortgage, car payments, and other expenses.

"I'm elated and extremely grateful to work for a company that helps us like this. The money we received was more than we expected."

Espie also recalled that when Mo lost his father six months earlier the Foundation also helped him.

Espie believes things are good now. Mo is back at work although he still struggles with pain. "The Foundation," she added, " is a big rock that we lean on."

Designating your gift to an area of greatest need...

In 2006 Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation allocated more than $1.5 million to Presbyterian Healthcare Services and the community. Designating your gift to an area of greatest need allows our volunteer Board of Directors, based on requests from the hospital and community, to direct your gift toward such purchases of maximum need. Every dollar you designate for your facility goes to your facility for the area of need you specify. Every dollar you donate demonstrates your generosity and dedication toward our community.

The following donations per pay period can help toward meeting needs such as these:

  • $1 could purchase a subscription to a children's magazine for a pediatric patient
  • $3 per pay period could help purchase a Staxi wheelchair for any Presbyterian facility
  • $4 per pay period could help provide financial assistance to homebound seniors in need of LIFELINE but unable to cover the expense.

In 2006, Presbyterian employees at Plains Regional Medical Center, Colfax General, Lincoln County Medical Center, Española Hospital, Socorro General Hospital and Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital cared for approximately:

  • 46,831 Emergency Room Visits
  • 7,395 Surgery Out Patients
  • 2,663 Surgery In Patients
  • 2,270 Newborns
