Employee Annual Fund Campaign - Regionals
Together we are making a difference
Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's Employee Annual Fund Campaign helps raise funds to support the Employee CareFund, to support areas of greatest need and to support a care area of particular interest to you. The CareFund provides for the emergency needs of employees who find themselves facing an unexpected or catastrophic financial hardship. In 2007 the PHS Employee CareFund provided $82,900 in financial support to 51 employees who needed help with rent, mortgage, and utility payments, along with other necessities. This was the highest dollar amount since its inception.
Each year your generosity surpasses the previous year's, and we greatly appreciate your support and belief in our work. You make our day every time you so generously donate your dollars to make a difference in the quality of life for others in our community. By filling out a pledge card, you are continuing the tradition of caring and compassion so representative of Presbyterian employees.
The Employee CareFund provides assistance to all PHS employees, including the entire Presbyterian Delivery System. PHP employees are provided the same assistance through the PHP Employee CareFund, which is funded through the PHP administrative budget.
It was a bad day in Clovis, New Mexico, on Friday, March 23, 2007
Some facts:
-
Estimated wind speed of the tornado that hit Clovis: 135 mph
-
Number of tornadoes that swept through the city in ten hours: 13
-
Average number of tornadoes per year over the past 40 years: 3
-
Number of homes destroyed: 55
-
Residents without power the day after: 3000
All this we know after the fact. Janis and her husband, Bob, had an inkling of it as they sat in their mobile home at 7:45 that evening with the rain pounding on the roof, wind tearing at the walls, and the four dogs madly pacing from room to room. When the south end of their mobile home began to vibrate and a mirror hanging over the sofa fell to the floor, then they knew it, too. Tornado!
"My entire body was shaking and my emotions were racing," Janis said, as she and Bob hunkered down in the middle of the living room floor. "The dogs were running and barking, the noise was like a jet plane flying through the room, and I could hear debris slamming against the south end of the house," she said.
The mobile home was picked up and just as quickly settled gently back down. "When I opened the front door, most of the mobile homes around us were destroyed, our single carport had hit the end of our house, our doublewide carport with an attached storage shed was gone, our Dodge Ram was moved to the vacant lot next door, the yard equipment was gone, part of the roof was ripped off, the sides of the mobile home looked like it had been hit with thousands of hammer blows, and debris was everywhere," she finished.
Now, almost a year later, it has been a lengthy recovery. Help came from many places, including churches, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, community volunteers and PRMC, which offered counseling and employee-donated PTO so there was time to get lives back in order.
"And the Employee CareFund was such a lifesaver," Janis said. "The financial assistance helped with insurance deductions on the pickup and our mobile home, and helped us replace many tools and yard equipment and personal items that were totally destroyed. And there is something else. Knowing that we would be able to buy the items that we had lost took so much anxiety and stress out of the process. I will be forever grateful not just for the dollars but for the intangibles we received from the CareFund."
