13th Anniversary of Presbyterian Hospice Memorial Tree

All proceeds benefited Presbyterian Hospice Services, which provides comfort and support at the end of life to patients whose life-limiting illnesses no longer respond to treatment. Hospice strives to offer peace and dignity to patients and their families while they are coping with this difficult but very special time. This is the story of one of our patients:

Paul Z. received Hospice care in his daughter's home from the end of September 2005 until late 2006. When asked about the care he was receiving and the personnel who visited him, he sang out his praises with a booming, "Yeah!"

His daughter Linda was equally enthusiastic. When Paul took a downturn, Hospice came to the house at midnight with oxygen tanks, a special bed and nebulizers and didn't leave until 2 a.m. "They were the greatest," Linda said. "Hospice has helped me keep my dad at home with us, and also allowed me to keep my job...We've had so much time together and gotten to know each other really well."

Holidays are the hardest time for people who have lost loved ones, and Memorial Tree is a ritual, designed to help them through this particular time. The ornament served as a remembrance of a loved one and as a promise to those still in need. Memorial Trees were hung with hundreds of ornaments inscribed with the names of loved ones and served as a glowing representation of love for those we miss.
