Volunteer Services Program

Presbyterian volunteers provide important services to our organization.

  • More than 600 active volunteers work at 11 Presbyterian Healthcare sites under the direction of the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation.
  • The Volunteer Services Program provides tens of thousands of invaluable hours of service and significant cash support to Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
  • Profits from the four gift shops managed by the Volunteer Services Program, averaging $300,000 annually, are returned to Presbyterian Hospitals via the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and designated for patient care and other programs.

Our Stories

Betty started out 'easy.' She volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital every other week, but, before she knew it, she was here three times a week, bringing hand crocheted baby blankets and caps to our newborns. “It's such a rewarding feeling when so many patients and families are so appreciative of what we do.”

When Manny retired from Presbyterian Healthcare Services, he couldn't wait to come back as a volunteer. Our patients and their families appreciate his work and his spirit, and they often try to tip him for his services. But, true to his character, he tells them his heart is so full after a day volunteering, there is nothing more he could possible take. “When they insist, I tell them to send me a blessing, or, better yet, to give me a hug.”

Laura is thrilled with how quickly relationships develop between the volunteers and patients and their families. She started volunteering to meet a requirement for a university class, and never stopped. Recently she was in line at the bank dressed in her Presbyterian Volunteer shirt, people started coming up to her to thank her for her service. “My family says I glow when I come home from the hospital.”
