Collaboration key to New Mexico’s COVID-19 strategy

February 27, 2021 Featured In the News

Presbyterian worked with other New Mexico health care systems to collaborate in new ways during the pandemic. That included creating a hub and spoke model to centralize and coordinate care during COVID-19, Modern Healthcare reported.

That approach, one of many collaborative approaches during the pandemic, was particularly important because New Mexico has one of the lowest rate of inpatient hospital beds in the country.

“These artificial walls came down,” said Dr. Denise Gonzales, medical director for telehealth and adult medical specialties at Presbyterian. “We had an open and frank conversation with one another built around transparency. We met daily to discuss hospital capacity and contingency plans—it helped a great deal.”
