Presbyterian Health Plan Selects Exclusive Behavioral Health Partner

August 23, 2012

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Presbyterian Health Plan (PHP) will be submitting a proposal to continue its participation in the state’s Medicaid program that will include managing the full array of Medicaid benefits – both physical and behavioral health – as outlined in the state’s new Centennial Care plan.

After following an extensive evaluation and rigorous planning process, PHP announced today it has selected Magellan Health Services, a nationally recognized behavioral health organization, as its exclusive behavioral health manager.

“As the only original Medicaid contractor in this state, Presbyterian is fully invested in New Mexico and we are very committed to members we serve,” said Dennis Batey, M.D., PHP president. “We are proud to be the only plan that is part of a locally owned and operated fully-integrated system to be submitting a proposal, and this gives us confidence that we can provide a seamless physical and behavioral health experience to our members if awarded a new state Medicaid contract.”

Magellan Health Services serves more than 50 million members nationally, and holds the sole contract for Maricopa County in Phoenix, Ariz., one of the largest public sector behavioral health programs in the country.  Through this relationship, PHP will be responsible for the scope and cost of the Medicaid contract including management of behavioral health services.
