Presbyterian Honors the Gift of Organ Donation with Ceremony

Release Date:

April 24, 2019

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On April 26, Presbyterian honored the gift of organ donation and the many lives saved through transplantation with a brief ceremony and flag-raising in front of Presbyterian Hospital.

In 2018, Presbyterian's transplant team participated in 34 kidney transplants and has already completed 26 so far this year. In addition, 10 deceased organ donors at Presbyterian Hospital were responsible for saving the lives of 22 people in 2018.

April is National Donate Life Month. This year's Donate Life symbol is the bicycle, which serves as a symbol of progress, renewal and the moving circle of life, much like the donation and transplantation journey. Kidney donor Yvette Pacheco and recipient Robert Davis spoke at the event, along with Brian McNamara, who received the first simultaneous pancreas/kidney transplant at Presbyterian.
