Two Presbyterian Hospitals Receive 2014 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award

December 2, 2014

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In recognition of their commitments to patient safety, Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center (RMC) were each named a Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group at its Annual Meeting and Top Hospital Awards on Dec. 2 in Washington D.C.

Presbyterian Hospital and RMC were among only 94 hospitals in the nation – from a field of more than 1,400 – to receive the 2014 Top Hospital distinction. They were also the only two hospitals in New Mexico to receive this distinction. The Top Hospital recognition is given to fewer than seven percent of all eligible hospitals.

“At Presbyterian, we work hard every day to ensure a safe environment for our patients,” said Kathy Davis, RN, senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Presbyterian Healthcare Services. “From preventing medication errors to reducing hospital acquired infections, the Top Hospital award recognizes our commitment to quality care. This achievement would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our providers and staff at Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center.”

As 2014 Top Hospitals, Presbyterian Hospital and RMC met standards for safe, high quality care and a commitment to transparency. The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors.

The Top Hospital award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather to all urban, rural and children’s hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year’s Top Hospitals Methodology.
