Wanted: Nurses in rural places

November 4, 2019 Featured In the News

In a recent Albuquerque Journal article, Johanna Stiesmeyer, Presbyterian's director of clinical education and professional development, discusses a new partnership between Presbyterian and the University of New Mexico to create a nurse practitioner residency program.

The program will be funded by a $3.2 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to expand access to health care in rural communities.

The program, which will focus on 10 New Mexico cities and towns, will encourage nurses and midwives to relocate and stay in remote areas of the state.

"Getting providers out there to those communities is so, so hard," Stiesmeyer said.
