Skilled Nursing

Our Skilled Nursing Inpatient Units at Presbyterian Kaseman and Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospitals provide superior medical and inpatient rehabilitation services within an intimate environment of highly trained staff and practitioners. The units offer rehabilitation, wound care, e-stim wound treatments, IV therapies, radiation therapy, nutritional support including TPN, PPN, nasogastric and gastric tube feedings, and palliative care.

Patients are transferred to skilled nursing to receive additional therapy in order to get stronger, allow more time for their wounds to heal, and to receive nutritional support and nursing that cannot be provided in the home. While most patients are transferred to the skilled nursing unit from acute care hospitals, direct admits may be made from the patient’s home, the hospital emergency room, and community clinics.

Swing Bed Program at Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari

The goal of the Swing Bed program is to develop the maximum degree of health and wellness achievable by the resident by implementing a structured, multi-disciplinary plan of care. The program emphasizes an environment that promotes independence and self-care. Depending on your doctor’s orders, residents may receive Physical, Occupational, Speech and/or Respiratory Therapy. Swing Bed care is often covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans.

What is “Swing Bed” care?

The term “Swing Bed” refers to a hospital's ability to use its beds to provide either acute hospital care or skilled nursing care. In effect, the beds “swing” between the two levels of care. The program provides flexibility to patients who are no longer acutely ill but need extra time to heal or strengthen before returning home.

What is the difference between acute care and Swing Bed care?

Acute care is medical treatment for patients with an acute illness or injury or recovering from surgery. Swing Bed is for patients who need additional therapies or nursing care to fully recover before returning to home.
