Job Shadow Opportunities in New Mexico

The Student Job Shadow Program provides opportunities for youths and adults to learn more about various healthcare careers in one of our facilities in New Mexico. Job shadows are unpaid and are observation only up to 100 hours. Hands-on experience is not available through the Student Job Shadow Program.

Application Process and Requirements

To apply for the Student Job Shadow Program, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Participants must be at least 16 years of age. If under the age of 18, participant must obtain parental or legal guardian consent.

  • Participants should not have a criminal conviction of any kind. Background checks will be conducted prior to the job shadows.

  • Complete and submit the full Student Job Shadow Program application to studentjobshadow@phs.org

  • Attend the Job Shadow Virtual Orientation (approximately 30 minutes).

As part of the application process, you will need to provide the following information with your completed application:

  • Student ID or state-issued identification.

  • Provide proof of required immunization records, including:

    • Measles,

    • Mumps,

    • Rubella (MMR),

    • Varicella (Chicken Pox),

    • Hepatitis B,

    • Diphtheria,

    • Pertussis,

    • Tetanus (DPT or Tdap),

    • Current TB test (within the last year),

    • Current flu shot (if in flu season) and

    • COVID-19 vaccination.

Applications should be received at least two weeks prior to requested start date for job shadowing. If you have a mentor, you will need to include that information in the application. If you do not have a mentor, it may take longer than two weeks to schedule your job shadow as a mentor will need to be coordinated. Maximum of 8 hours of job shadow without a mentor.

Student Job Shadow Virtual Orientation weekly schedule – must attend one.

  • Tuesday at 8:30 am MST

  • Thursday at 1:30 pm MST

Patient Safety

Patients are our first priority, and patient confidentiality is extremely important. Presbyterian is dedicated to providing a safe and private environment for patients, members and guests. All patient-related job shadows are subject to patient authorization. Guests who job shadow at any Presbyterian facility are required to follow the same policies and procedures related to confidentiality and privacy for our patients, including regulations under the Healthcare Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
