Gross receipts tax renewal passes in Quay County

November 9, 2023Our Stories

The votes are in – and 72% of voters approved the Quay County Special County Hospital Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) renewal on Election Day.

Funds from the GRT are used to support services at Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital and at primary care clinics in Tucumcari and Logan, NM.

The vote continued the existing 1/8th of 1% gross receipts tax, which was first approved in 1987.

GRT funds are invested back into the community to support hospital and clinic operations, maintenance, remodeling and to purchase medical equipment. Examples of recent equipment investments include a new ultrasound machine, a new bone density scanner and a new cardiac/telemetry monitoring system.

“We want to say thank you to the voters -- this is wonderful news for our team and our community,” said Vickie Gutierrez, chief nurse and hospital chief executive at Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital. “We appreciate the trust and confidence that community members place in our incredible team every day. I think Quay County residents understand just how important it is to keep healthcare services close to home, and the GRT helps us do that.”
