Nurse Navigators: Here to Help You Through Your Cancer Journey

April 9, 2025

A cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to go through it alone. At Presbyterian Cancer Care, our nurse navigators are here to support you and your family. They help to ease the way during your initial cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. They are caring nurses who help explain things, answer your questions, and guide you through the process—from diagnosis to treatment.

What is a Nurse Navigator?

A nurse navigator is a registered nurse who helps patients move through the cancer care process with confidence and clarity. From your first diagnosis through treatment and follow-up care, nurse navigators provide education, coordination, and emotional support.

Their goal is to help patients across New Mexico receive personalized cancer care close to home while reducing stress and confusion during treatment.

How Nurse Navigators Support Cancer Patients

  • Understanding Your Care:

They can explain your cancer diagnosis, your treatment options, and what side effects you might expect—so you feel more prepared and less worried.

  • Keeping Things Organized:

Nurse navigators help schedule your appointments, manage test results, and keep all your doctors on the same page.

  • Emotional Support:

They’re here to listen and talk about any fears or concerns you or your loved ones may have. You're not alone in this.

  • Social Support:

If you’re worried about transportation, money, or where to stay during treatment, nurse navigators can help find solutions or connect you with services that can help.

  • Finding Resources:

They can help you and your family find support groups, local resources, or other helpful programs you might not know about.
