Academic Coordinators

Initial requests for rotation placements at a Presbyterian facility can be sent by the school or university’s student academic coordinators/placement staff directly. Please reach out directly to the medical education coordinator for assistance in finding a preceptor for your student. Placement requests cannot be completed without a preceptor assigned to the student.

Request Deadlines

We place students from over 92 academic programs in our facilities. To provide equitable placements for all students and programs, we ask that requests for rotation placements and preceptors be placed well in advance of the clinical start date. A minimum of 30 days is requested. We will return confirmation of clinical placement to the student, clinical rotation staff and the students preceptor.

Regulatory Clearances and Vaccinations for Onboarding

Our regulatory and internal policies require that all medical and advanced practice nursing students, residents and fellows have the same level of regulatory clearances as our employees.

Requirements include:

  • Confirmation of New Mexico Department of Health required background checks and fingerprinting requirements.

  • Letter of good standing submitted by the learning institution.

  • Confirmation of a Health screening exam (Fit for Duty) and verification of the following immunizations:

    • TDAP

    • Varicella

    • Annual tuberculosis (TB) screening

    • MMR

    • Hepatitis B (HBV)

    • Seasonal influenza (Oct - Mar)

    • COVID vaccine (if applicable)

  • Confirmation of completed 10 panel urinary drug screen test.

If the learner has a valid New Mexico professional Healthcare license (RN, RCP, etc.) or a Compact State Nursing License that includes New Mexico, there is no requirement to complete the NMDOH background check/fingerprinting process.

If the learner is a current Presbyterian employee, with current New Mexico professional license, the only thing required from the school is a current letter of good standing. The employee records will be used for all other documentation of clearances and vaccination. The Learner must indicate they are a current Presbyterian employee on their rotation application.

Required computer-based orientation and competency learning modules

Our regulatory and internal policies require that all medical and advanced practice nursing students, residents and fellows have the same level of orientation and competency as our employees. This is to ensure that our patients are cared for safely and that the students are safe in our facilities. These computer-based trainings will be assigned to the learner following the completion of the regulatory checks and should be completed in their entirety prior to the learner’s clinical rotation.

EPIC™ EMR Access

Presbyterian Healthcare Services utilizes Epic™ as the electronic medical records system. All learners who are granted EPIC™ access must complete the Presbyterian EPIC™ training module prior to their clinical rotation. Learners will be emailed their Epic username and passwords upon completion of the onboarding process.
