Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently looking for volunteers to work with our hospice patients. Opportunities throughout the state include the Albuquerque area, Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, Tucumcari, Clovis and Socorro.

Hospice volunteers are an important part of care for patients and their families and can include volunteer hours working in one of our office locations or visiting patients in their homes. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available including:

  • Visiting and talking with the patient

  • Reading and discussing books

  • Taking a walk

  • Helping with meals

  • Providing transportation

  • Watching TV or movies together

  • Help caring for the patient’s pet

  • Helping with mailings or other hospice office duties

Additionally, we have a Veterans for Veterans program, providing support for our hospice patients who are also veterans.

People volunteer for a variety of reasons. Many are retirees who want to do something stimulating and worthwhile. Others still work, but they like to volunteer a few hours in the evening or on weekends. Student volunteers can use their volunteer experience to explore healthcare careers and complete school community service requirements. Adult volunteers should be at least 18 years old and student volunteers should be 16 to 18 years old.

Volunteers will need to be vaccinated as described in the PHS Vaccination Requirement for Volunteers. Additionally, hospice volunteers will need to have fingerprint clearance with the NM Department of Health. All necessary training will be provided by Presbyterian Hospice staff and they will make sure you can care for our patients safely and compassionately.
