“Little Wishes” helps children and families during hospital stays

October 31, 2025In the News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Kids and families can come up with a lot of big wishes for better health during a long-term hospital stay – but what about the small wishes for moments of joy in between?

An organization is granting those wishes for local kids, like 11-year-old Ethan Davis. He started having pain last June.

“We just started seeing early signs that we thought was just a stomach virus. Then, it turned out to not be that. My legs were in so much pain…”

Doctors diagnosed Ethan with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer common in kids.

“I was just shocked. Instead of like worried I was just like, ‘I have cancer? What?'” “You don’t really know what the next steps are going to be. All you know is that you have to keep going.”

A year-and-a-half into this life-changing diagnosis, the mother-son duo finds joy. They also were granted a big wish – a Lego Jeep that Ethan loves.
