Presbyterian Medical Group invests $12M to expand northeast Albuquerque clinic

May 13, 2026In the News

Presbyterian Medical Group is investing $12 million to expand its northeast Albuquerque clinic, nearly doubling the number of primary care physicians at the facility to meet growing demand in the Northeast Heights.

The group is planning to add 7,000 square feet of space to the existing 24,000-square-foot building at 8800 Montgomery Blvd. NE, with improvements expected to be completed by mid-2027.

The expansion project would add space for more patients and providers, Dr. Darren Shafer, president of Presbyterian Medical Group, said.

“When we look at where to grow services, we focus on where the needs are greatest and where we can improve access to timely care. In the Northeast Heights, we’ve seen significant demand for primary care services,” Shafer told Business First.

Talbert Medical Management Corp. built the building on Montgomery in 1992, according to a spokesperson for Presbyterian Medical Group. The New Mexico-based health care provider acquired the space and has occupied it since the mid-1990s. The group currently has 32 clinics statewide.

“Access to primary care is foundational to keeping communities healthy, and this investment reflects our commitment to making it easier for more New Mexicans to get the care they need close to home,” Shafer said.
