CLOVIS, NM – Plains Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is continuing its educational partnership with Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and is once again welcoming medical students at their facility.
This collaboration, which began in 2018, highlights PRMC’s continued commitment to fostering the next generation of physicians while enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.
“These students will bring fresh perspectives, energy and a passion for learning that will enrich our clinical environment and strengthen our ties to the broader medical community,” says Dr. Parikshit Thakur, chief medical officer at Plains Regional Medical Center. “We are hopeful that this partnership will help recruit physicians to the local area for future employment opportunities.”
Through this partnership, students will learn from physicians in various departments at PRMC to gain experience working in a hospital setting. A rotation at the hospital can last from two weeks to a month, and students have the opportunity to complete multiple rotations depending on the availability of physician preceptors.
“My rotation at Plains Regional Medical Center was a great learning experience. Dr. Thakur and the hospital staff were so welcoming and dedicated to teaching, and I gained valuable hands-on experience caring for patients in a close-knit community hospital setting,” said Joy Jarnagin, student at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“Dr. Thakur provided valuable insight into nephrology and the broader responsibilities of a chief medical officer, which deepened my understanding of both patient care and healthcare leadership.”
