911 Emergency Services

AAS provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical services in coordination with city and county agencies including:

  • Albuquerque Fire Department
  • Bernalillo County Fire Department
  • Village of Corrales Fire Department
  • Kirtland AFB Fire Department

AAS provides transport to surrounding hospitals within Albuquerque and the listed areas. Each ambulance is equipped with a full range of ALS equipment including the Physio-Control LP-152 with 12-lead ECGs, which allows for early recognition of patients having acute myocardial infarctions (heart attack), as well as hands-free defibrillation for sudden cardiac arrest. Each ALS ambulance is also equipped with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). AAS uses:

  • Type I and Type II Horton Ambulances and Type III Crestline Ambulances
  • Stryker Power Hydraulic Gurneys
  • Zoll Patient Care Report (PCR)
  • Zoll CAD with real time data collection and GPS

In addition, Albuquerque Ambulance has a Critical Care Transport Team that includes two Critical Care EMT Paramedics (CCEMT-P) and an emergency medical technician (EMT). The team has equipment and skills to provide:

  • Mechanical ventilation for adults and children
  • Invasive pressure monitoring (arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters and inter-cranial pressure monitoring)
  • Advanced medication management
  • Rapid sequence airway procedures
  • Fetal monitoring

AAS Strike Team

We have the only Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)-based ambulance strike team in New Mexico. Our strike team will deploy to both man-made or natural disaster scenes. Albuquerque plays a vital role and critical component for any coordinated disaster responses within our region. Our AAS Strike Team members are professional, well-trained and well-prepared for deployment during many different types of disasters.

Emergency and Non-Emergency Interfacility Transports

AAS provides both ALS and intermediate life-support medical transports throughout the entire state of New Mexico. Transports can be from hospital to hospital, hospital to home, or hospital to care facility. AAS works closely with specialty care facilities, including nursing homes and rehab centers throughout New Mexico.

Additionally, our Critical Care Transport team is available for transfers for patients with the following needs or conditions:

  • Patients requiring transport when air transport is not available
  • Transfers to the ICU, CCU, PICU, MICU, TSI or NSI
  • Multi-system trauma needing transport to definitive care
  • IV medication infusion that may require dosing adjustments
  • Patients with invasive lines
  • High-risk obstetric patients
  • Pediatric patients at risk of cardiopulmonary or respiratory failure

AAS Events Team

Albuquerque Ambulance Service (AAS) provides emergency medical support year-round for events of all types and sizes in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. The AAS Events Team has specially trained medical professionals who can serve your event with teams on bicycles, as single paramedic providers, or in ambulances, depending on your needs. All teams are outfitted with specialized equipment and supplies, including advanced life support equipment, and maintain direct radio contact with the AAS Communication Center in case ambulance or fire department backup is required.

Community Paramedic Program

AAS has a robust Community Paramedic program, working in partnership with healthcare systems and insurance providers to help reduce emergency department visits and hospital admissions through proactive home visits. AAS Community Paramedics are specially-trained and provide education, assessments, and treatments aimed at helping patients manage their health at home. We work with hospice, home healthcare, and social service agencies to supplement and fill gaps in the healthcare delivery system.
