Breastfeeding Support Services

Whether you're in the hospital or at home with your new baby, breastfeeding support is only just a phone call away with Presbyterian’s breastfeeding support services. Staffed by internationally board certified registered nurse lactation consultants, our program meets the needs of nursing mothers before birth, during the hospital stay, and after everyone is home.

Presbyterian Hospital is proud to have earned the prestigious Baby-Friendly® Hospital designation from Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. To qualify as Baby-Friendly®, we demonstrated and implemented 10 evidence-based practices that support breastfeeding. Baby-Friendly® hospitals and birthing facilities must adhere to the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding to receive and retain the designation.

Why should I breastfeed my baby?

Breast milk is the ideal food for infants. It has a nutrition-filled mix of vitamins, protein and fat – everything your baby needs to grow. Breast milk contains antibodies that can help your baby fight off infections. Breastfeeding can also lower your baby’s risk of having asthma or allergies. Breastfeeding your baby also gives you a level of physical closeness, with skin-to-skin touching and eye contact, that can help you and your baby bond more strongly. This quiet time together is a wonderful way to spend time with your baby while helping provide them optimal nutrients for their health and growth.
