Child Life Program
What is the Child Life program at Presbyterian?
Our Child Life program provides activities and socialization for children and families, and coordinates in-hospital schooling as needed. The dedicated Child Life team staffs our in-hospital playroom and Rachel's Courtyard, a colorful, whimsical "playground in the sky" that extends from the hospital's sixth floor pediatric unit. Child Life specialists work with children to reduce stress and anxiety through medical play therapy and much more. Child Life staff can help explain hospital procedures, medicines, IVs, and operations to patients and family members in an age-appropriate manner, interact with brothers and sisters who may need more information and support, and help coordinate schoolwork if a child is hospitalized for more than two weeks.

The Family Room is located near the Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU and pediatric units.
What services does the Family Room provide?
The 1,500-square feet Family Room is available, at no charge, to all families with children registered in the hospital, and includes:
Four sleeping rooms for naps
Overnight accommodations for up to a two-night stay
Shower facilities
A kitchen area with refrigerator and microwave for snacks and quick meals
Coffee, soda and snacks
Laundry facilities (washers, dryers and laundry detergent)

The Family Room is staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. by volunteers who can provide information, guidance and support. The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides an oasis of calm for these families who can find comfort, care and support while staying close to their child.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Presbyterian Hospital was made possible by a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico® and the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation.
